What social media can\'t explain

It is beyond reasonable doubt that social media has played a key role in the wave of protests and political activism that has hit the Middle East in recent weeks — even cyber-sceptic Yevgeny Morozov acknowledges this point.

But here's an unanswered question in my mind: why, if social media is so powerful, are the protests so geographically confined to the Middle East' Why have the protests in Tunisia and Egypt encouraged Bahrainis and Libyans, but not Venezuelans or Fijians'

(But wait, maybe this wave of people power is breaking its geographical confines.)
