Relief for Iran watchers this week with news from its National Olympic Committee Secretary General, Bahram Afsharzadeh, that the name 'Persian Gulf'  will not be removed from the medals of the 2nd Islamic Countries Solidarity Games.

As Bahram defiantly pointed out:

Persian Gulf is a part of our country and we will not remove these words from the medals at all. We don’t care if one or two countries such as the United Arab Emirates withdraw from the games.
