  • Quite a flattering profile of US senior North Korea negotiator Christopher Hill.
  • All Roads Lead to China has a good post about the logistics of the earthquake relief effort.
  • Via a new ANU-based blog, East Asia Forum, I found this interesting John Garnaut column about what's really going wrong in Tibet. Meanwhile, the Tibet railway Garnaut refers to is being extended to Nepal.
  • A new Fukuda doctrine: If this report of the Japanese PM's recent foreign policy speech is right, chalk it up as more evidence of a trend (although I use the term reluctantly) toward a renewed emphasis on diplomacy. If anyone has a full English translation of the Fukuda address, grateful for a steer (UPDATE: Tobias from Observing Japan shows me the way).
  •  Last week I argued that Americans tend, to their cost, to venerate the presidency. Newsweek columnist George Will says it much better.
