Karl Rove, the Bush Administration mastermind-turned-pundit, has an op-ed in today’s Wall Street Journal arguing that Barack Obama’s foreign policies are ‘naïve and foolhardy’ and that Obama is insufficiently prepared to stride the world stage. The only appropriate response to such an argument from a former Bush Administration official is, of course: 'What, unlike George W. Bush?' But Rove was obviously not interested in mounting a pre-emptive defence of the Bush foreign policy legacy, so instead he chose to compare Obama unfavourably with President Ronald Reagan.

You have to think that President Bush – who is probably still peeved by the disloyalty of former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan and whose political profile is shrinking daily – would have liked his former senior adviser to find at least a couple of positive things to say about his Administration’s foreign policies.

Bush supposedly has two nicknames for Rove: on good days, he’s Boy Genius; on bad days, he’s Turd Blossom.  Today looks like being a bad day.
