Super Hornet: Dennis Jensen MP replies

Sam Roggeveen

11 December 2007 12:40

Yesterday I wrote a post questioning why Liberal MP Dennis Jensen waited until his party was in opposition to speak out about his concerns over the then-government's decision to buy Super Hornet strike fighters. Dennis Jensen writes today to correct the record:

I have just read your 'more pot shots…' article, where you ask the question why I didn't question the Superhornet decision at the time. Just for your information, I did question it, and you can find the article where I criticised it on 9 January 2007 here. This was mirrored here. So it cannot be said that I am only criticising the decision from the convenience of opposition, I did it when it was a case of me attacking a government decision.

Perhaps you may choose to correct the question that you posed. This is now an issue that the government needs to deal with, and I sincerely hope that the new defence minister listens with equal diligence to all sides, and gives access to all those with the expertise to analyse the issue. It would be the worst of all worlds if the minister was held captive by the defence chiefs.

I apologise for the error, and in partial reparation, I'll link to Mr Jensen's blog.
