Signing off for 2010

The Interpreter is on holidays until 3 January Tuesday 4 January, but if you want some distraction between now and then, something completely unrelated to international policy, here are two online hits from 2010 which really tickled me.

The first is an epic 7-part video review of The Phantom Menace (start here), George Lucas' first Star Wars prequel. The review is not only funny and inventive, it is absolutely devastating in the way it pulls apart the film's glaring inadequacies. Watch this one at home — definitely NSFW.

Second, try comedian Zach Galifianakis' celebrity interview series, Between Two Ferns. (Also NSFW.)

The only thing left to do now is to wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy new year, and to leave you with this flash mob scene from a shopping mall in Canada, a moment of genuine beauty in the most prosaic of settings. It's heartening to see that this video has had over 25 million views. Enjoy.
