Reader riposte: More on rugby diplomacy

13 October 2011 17:15

Paul Cotton responds to a previous reader riposte from Anton Kuruc pointing out China's participation in the International Defence Rugby Competition:

Anton may not be aware that some years ago, maybe 10 or 15, the Peoples Liberation Army decided to adopt rugby as a major sport and asked the New Zealand Rugby Union if they could send them some coaches. The NZRU asked how many coaches they needed and PLA said 5000, please. In the event two were sent.

Clearly they've been doing their job.
