Reader riposte: Hindsight on Korea

This post is a nice example of 20:20 hindsight.

The US, contemplating where the Soviets might attack along their vast bloc periphery, was focused on Western Europe and the Middle East.

No one in Washington expected that Stalin, checkmated in Berlin, would give Kim Il Sung the green light to invade South Korea.

Just as in 2000, no one in the US thought that the US would be fighting in Afghanistan in 2001.
