Quadrant online

That institution of the Australian right, the monthly magazine Quadrant, seems to have had an on-line facelift. Not before time. I have a lot of affection for Quadrant because it gave me my first break as a published author, so it's been sad to see it struggling lately. Clearly the site is a work in progress, as many of the links don't work, but there are also hints of ambition: namely, an as-yet unpopulated tab for 'Quadrant TV'. If Quadrant is to have a future, it probably is online, so good luck to them.

It might interest international readers to know that Quadrant played a small part in the intellectual front of the Cold War— for some years, the magazine was secretly funded by the CIA. Here's one account of how that worked, though it's important to note that the author, Cassandra Pybus, has been criticised for her book on poet and scholar James McAuley, which deals with the subject of CIA funding.
