In praise of interpreters

I was going to simply give Fairfax's piece 'Patriots & Traitors' a link, but it deserves more than that. Via Freedom of Information applications and extensive interviews, Tim Lester and Tim Young have put together a fantastic series of three, 20-minute videos on the Iraqi interpreters who worked with Australian forces in Iraq.

Even better (and showing a real 21st century approach) they have provided all the documents, full interviews and related material online to help build the story.

The story also highlights the good decision by the Rudd government to bring many of the Iraqi interpreters to safety in Australia. In a war as controversial as Iraq, anything we can do to make-good on our way out will have long term ramifications.

Anyway, congrats to those behind this project. This is the type of journalism I would happily pay for.
