Open access for World Bank data

The World Bank has just done a very good thing: it has announced that it's providing open access to a range of its statistical indicators, including the World Development Indicators, Global Development Finance, Global Economic Monitor, and more. You can take a look here.

This is a terrific initiative, not to mention good news for stretched think tank budgets.* I wonder if there's any chance of the IMF and the OECD (which already provide some free data) now following the Bank's example? Here's hoping.

*I should note that the Australian Bureau of Statistics was already an example of best practice in this regard.
