National debt and national security

As an example of the linkages between economics and security, see this David Ignatius column on how fiscal sustainability is increasingly being viewed as a national security issue in the US.

Now, it's true that US debt sustainability should not be overplayed; despite some similarities, the US is not in the same boat as Greece. Nevertheless, it is the case that much of the developed world, including the US, now faces some pretty daunting debt dynamics in the medium term. Dealing (or not dealing) with this is going have some major consequences, including for security-type considerations.
