  • A report from the meeting between Defence Ministers of Australia and New Zealand. Predictably, there was some emphasis on maritime issues, including amphibious ships. Here's the official release.
  • More fallout from the UK Strategic Defence Review: the Royal Navy has been forced to withdraw warships from its longstanding Caribbean patrol. Frigates and destroyers will be replaced by Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, a decision which has attracted some criticism. That said, RFA vessels with armed helicopters and Royal Marine Commando-led boarding parties can achieve most of what is required of these patrols.
  • Northrop Grumman expects India to sign an $11 billion deal for fighter jets by the end of this year. $30 billion is expected to be spent over the next five years on updating defence equipment. There is an emphasis on strengthening navy capabilities to safeguard maritime interests in the Indian Ocean.
  • Here's the US Navy's next generation of aircraft – unmanned. The X-47B made its maiden flight last Friday.
