Friday funny: Movie scenes for the GFC

Inspired by Sam’s post referencing A Few Good Men and his list of foreign policy movies, and finding myself with a bit of time to kill in a waiting room the other day, I wondered if I could do something similar for the GFC. Ten minutes back at home with YouTube gave me the following short selection.

To begin, there is the inevitable Greed is Good speech from Wall Street. Then there's Larry the Liquidator delivering his pitch in Other People’s Money. Next, the opening ‘group interview’ from The Boiler Room (warning: contains bad language). Then I give you the ‘Coffee’s for Closers’ sales talk from Glengarry Glenn Ross (also contains bad language). And while it’s not as closely related as the previous bunch, this nevertheless has a certain resonance right now.

While I couldn’t find obvious speeches from the next two, honourable mentions should also go to Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room and Rogue Trader.

Finally, the small screen provides some useful advice for those investors who were unable to resist even the worst toxic assets on offer. Maybe they should have asked this important question:
