Feachem on aid and growth

Hugh White questions whether foreign aid can generate economic growth.

This issue was directly addressed by aid industry veteran and head of Global Health Sciences at the University of California Sir Richard Feachem (pictured) when he spoke at the Lowy Institute in May. Feachem allowed that there is some dispute among economists on this matter, but concluded from his review of the evidence that the link between aid and growth was either weak or non-existent.

In the interview I did with Feachem during his visit, my first question was on this very issue. You can listen below, or hearĀ Feachem's presentation in fullĀ here.

PS. There's more commentary about Hugh White's op-ed on Inside Story, in a piece by University of Adelaide economist Michael Cornish.
