Economics is relevant, really

Dani Rodrik’s excellent blog pointed me to this NY Times story about the renewed relevance of economics. Apparently, only a decade or so ago economics was looking like a ‘tired and old discipline’, but now ‘economics has begun to get its groove back’, which I think is supposed to be a good thing. The Times’ David Leonhardt surveyed economists to ask who in the profession was making the world a better place.  The runaway winner turned out to be a group of economists working at the Poverty Action Lab looking at ways to make development aid work better.  Rodrik has some typically thoughtful comments on the piece.
