Bruce Dover writes in his post on Australian international broadcasting:

Specifically commissioned and targeted programming would represent a more engaging and accurate view of Australia than that provided by repeats of 'Home and Away'.

That being a reference to a long-running Australian soap opera. But Mr Dover surely has not forgotten that 'Dallas' helped the West win the Cold War. And now we discover via Wikileaks that 'Desperate Housewives' is proving a useful weapon against Islamic extremism.

So stone the flamin' crows, it turns out Alf Stewart and his mates might turn out to be pretty effective ambassadors for Australia.
