ABC boss on the media future

I'm a little perplexed at the combative tone of ABC Managing Director Mark Scott's AN Smith Memorial Lecture on the decline of the traditional media. He makes powerful arguments about the decline of old media models in the face of the internet revolution, and is also convincing about the importance of public broadcasters in this new media world. All of which leaves me wondering why he found it necessary to bait Rupert Murdoch so openly.

One thing that needs to be corrected in Scott's speech is his claim that ABC online content will remain free. That's only true if you ignore the contribution of the Australian taxpayer.
